The future of maritime environmental protection has begun
Maritime industry leaders are setting the green course
Shipping is the most environmental friendly mode of transport. All the more as environmental protection has long since arrived in the maritime industry. The issue is very much a priority and is being implemented in all companies and organisations of the industry. What has been missing up to now is global coordination, as a foundation for joint action, providing a level playing for the whole of the industry.
That is the reason for gmec, the first global maritime environmental congress, which will be held in Hamburg on 7 and 8 September 2010, on the occasion of SMM, the world’s leading shipbuilding trade fair.
Under the patronage of German Chancellor, Dr. Angela Merkel, gmec and SMM 2010 will be officially opened by the Secretary-General International Maritime Organisation, Efthimios Mitropoulos.
gmec will bring all the important industry segments together with the hope of initiating further international agreements regarding shipping and the environment:
Finding solutions for measurable environmental results
gmec will underline the importance of shipping’s social and economic impact and look at how environmental shipping technologies and strategies can have a positive impact on maritime environmental conditions. Reviewing the last thirty years and looking ahead to the next ten, gmec 2010 will optimise communication between all industry sectors and government bodies with a focus on:
gmec is a unique opportunity for participants to share their experience and visions, and to help set the green course towards achieving a healthy marine environment.
